William Matthis LaHue

Bill LaHue entered his eternal rest just before 6:30 a.m., Sunday January, 23rd. His death resulted from a long-term battle with lung cancer, and more recently, brain cancer. At the time of his death, he was attended by his precious wife Joyce and his younger sister Kathy.
Bill was born in Gainesville, Texas, October 4, 1949, the only son of Ada Lee and Bill LaHue. One of three children, Bill had an older sister, Sandy, and younger sister, Kathy. The family followed Bill senior’s petroleum production jobs around North and West Texas for a number of years, finally settling in Abilene as the family’s hometown residence.
Bill attended public schools there and graduated from Abilene High School in 1969. Bill formed many lifelong friendships in Abilene, and began his lifelong love of hunting, the outdoors, firearms, and animals of all kinds. After his military service Bill spent most of his adult life in close friendship with a boyhood neighbor from Abilene, the late Warren Shaw.
Like many of his contemporaries Bill joined the military in May, 1969. He served in the U.S. Navy from May of 1969 until August of 1973, including three deployments of the aircraft carrier, U.S.S. Enterprise during the Vietnam War.
Following his military service, Bill enrolled in McMurry College in Abilene, and began his business education. He graduated from McMurry in 1977, with a bachelor’s degree in business administration and a concentration in marketing.
After graduation Bill worked for Pride Petroleum in Abilene and Brownwood, eventually relocating to the Dallas area and a sales position for Motorola.
In the Dallas area, Bill met and married the love of his life, Joyce Sanders, in Irving, Texas on August 4, 1990.
Bill’s military service and naturally went toward his patriotism. That was accelerated on September 11, 2001, as he felt the enemies of his loved nation had brought their attack to our own shores. He remained a stubbornly patriotic man until his death, flying the U.S. flag and the Missing In Action flag daily in front of his Garland home. Bill loved other veterans and issues related to veterans, and treated it as an extension of his patriotism. He leaves his wife Joyce to care for his loved dogs, Chloe and Zoe. William Mathis LaHue Jr. is survived by his wife, Joyce LaHue, daughter Shelli Egger, and grandson Jackson Egger.
