Wanda Louise Horn

January 15, 1928 — June 15, 2021

Wanda Louise Henslee Horn was born on January 15, 1928, in Merit, Texas to Robert Burlin Henslee and Gladys Virginia Baker. God called her home on the morning of June 15, 2021, in Dallas, Texas at the age of 93.

As a child, Wanda and two of her siblings were received into the community of Buckner Baptist Orphan's Home in Dallas, Texas. Though it may seem sad to some, she often spoke of many fond memories and friendships from "The Home" as she called it.

In 1948, she left there to begin her life as an adult, and immediately went to work for Southwestern Bell as a long-distance operator. She continued to work there for 35 years, until her retirement in 1983 at the age of 55.

Wanda met Willard Gerald Horn on a blind date at a drugstore/soda fountain in downtown Dallas. They married in 1950 and raised their three children in Dallas, Texas. They attended church regularly and Wanda enjoyed being a member of the Buckner Alumni throughout her lifetime. After retirement, Wanda and Willard bought and lived in several homes in the East Texas area, settling in Greenville, Texas in their final years.

Wanda is preceded in death by her husband of 68 years, Willard Horn, her parents, an infant brother, her older brother, Ewell Henslee, her older sister, Norma Frazier, her son-in-law, Ron Reitz, and many In-laws and several nieces and nephews.

Wanda is survived by her younger brother and sister-in-law, Ira Lee and Betty Henslee of Fort Stockton, Texas. Her daughter, Donna Reitz of Sachse, Texas, her son and daughter-in-law, Rodney and Sharon Horn of Bells, Texas, and her daughter and son-in-law, Dorinda and Billy Tuerck of Dallas, Texas. She is also survived by seven grandchildren and their spouses: Tina Liverman, Cory and Tammy Reitz, Brandi and Raymond Maciel, Ryan and Jane Horn, Megan and Zane Shook, Dalton and Hillary Tuerck, Banner and Nada Tuerck. She is also survived by ten great-grandchildren: Camden Liverman, Boone and Bohdan Reitz, Harrison and Aiden Maciel, Cruze and Cohen Shook, Jensen, Quinn, and Bonham Tuerck. Along with numerous nieces and nephews.

A Memorial service will be held on Wednesday, June 30, 2021 at 2:00 p.m. at Charles W. Smith and Son's Sachse-Chapel. Her final resting place will be in the Mount Pisgah Cemetery in Pine Mills, Texas.
