Valeria McMullen

June 15, 1926 — October 15, 2022

Valeria Beldean McMullen passed away peacefully on October 15, 2022, at age 96. She was one of five children born in Detroit, Michigan to Romanian immigrant parents Nicholas Beldean and Victoria (nee Daramus). She is proceeded in death by her parents, brothers John and Nick, sisters Marie Arnold and Eleanor Slavik, daughter Laura Krause and husband Alan.

Born June 15,1926, her childhood was modest but filled with family and the influences of Detroit's Romanian and eastern European neighborhoods. She attended Pershing High School, where after graduation she met her future husband, Alan McMullen. They were married as Alan went off to serve in World War II.

The five Beldean siblings would all remain in the Detroit area as they raised their families. They became centerpieces of a close-knit clan that gathered regularly for holiday celebrations and countless family gatherings. Val and Alan had two children, Laura and Gary. She is survived by Gary (Nora), grandson Corey (Kiery), great grandson Cameron, and many nieces, nephews and their children.

When Val entered the workforce as her children matured, she rose through the ranks of the Jervis B. Webb Company, eventually becoming office manager in their marketing department. She gave them more than 25 years of service before her retirement. While there she also served her community as a board member of the Farmington YMCA.

She moved to Haslett, Michigan in the mid 1990s. There, she prospered with many friends, again participating with her local YMCA, the HELO Club, and volunteering at Michigan State University. She was a congregant at Eastminster Presbyterian Church in East Lansing. She moved to McKinney, Texas in 2019 to remain close to her immediate family.
