Thomas Harlon Phillips of Sachse, Texas was born June 24, 1933, in Horatio, Arkansas, to Eileen Fern Knox and Earl Thomas Phillips. He received Angel wings on February 8, 2022. Thomas is survived by his wife of 62 years, Jeanne; his sons James and Jason and daughter-in-law, Christy; four grandchildren, Kayleigh, Landry, Abby, and Jace Harlon. He is also survived by his sister, Patricia Earline Blanchard and brother-in-law, Kenneth Blanchard; two nephews, Todd Blanchard and Brad Blanchard; sisters-in-law, Patricia Carrier and Judy Boudreaux and husband Eugene; brothers-in-law, Everette Landry and wife Nancy; and Harvey Landry and Janet Gros, and many nieces, nephews, cousins and their families.
He was predeceased by his parents; his brother, John Phillips and sister-in-law Ruth Phillips; his parents-in-law, Everette and Louisiane Landry; his brother-in-law, Wallace Carrier; and his nephew Keith Carrier.
Thomas grew up in Texarkana attending Texas High School and Texarkana Junior College where he excelled as a basketball and baseball player. During his second year of college he began his service in the U.S. Army. He returned from active duty and resumed his college studies at Nicholls State University in Thibodaux, Louisiana, graduating with a Bachelor's Degree in 1959.
Thomas retired from Bank of America after 34 years in 1994. He then began a 19 year adventure with the City of Garland, marshalling at Firewheel Golf Course. He enjoyed playing golf with the seniors on Tuesday mornings. Thomas volunteered for over 30 years with the Garland FFA and the Ag Livestock Committee, helping the young participants in the Agricultural program. He participated in local livestock shows as well as traveling to shows in other cities and states helping the students.
Thomas enjoyed visiting, playing games and sharing meals with his friends at Sachse Senior Center. He was a great fan of SMU and Texas A&M athletics. Thomas was a regular blood donor for more than 40 years through Carter Blood Center and its predecessors.
Thomas was an active member of First Baptist Church of Garland.
A Memorial Service will be Saturday, February 19, 2022 at 10:00 a.m., at Charles W. Smith & Sons Funeral Home Chapel, 2925 5th Street, Sachse, Texas 75048.
