Tarah Michelle Phillips

October 14, 1983 — August 31, 2012

Tarah Michelle Powell Phillips stepped into Heaven on August 30, 2012 at the age of 28 after a lengthy battle with breast cancer. She was born October 14, 1983 in Greenville, Texas to Rev. Mike and Renay Powell.

Most of her childhood was spent in Royse City, Texas where her parents served as pastors. She moved with her family to Costa Rica for a year and then spent her teenage years in Queretaro, Mexico where her family served as missionaries with the Assemblies of God.

Moving back to the United States, she met and married the love of her life, Justin Phillips. They shared six wonderful years of life together and had a beautiful son, Noah, now age four. They grew together as a family and in their walk of faith with the Lord Jesus Christ.

After being diagnosed with inflammatory breast cancer in November of 2010, Tarah faced the disease head on with courage, confidence and strength. She never complained, but seized the opportunity this challenge presented to share her faith and model a life of fearless trust in God, a positive attitude, a life of hope in Christ, and sincere appreciation for the everyday blessings God had given her and her family. She was a hero of faith, an example of courage and a true witness of God's love and of devotion to family until the day God called her home.

Tarah was a vivacious, loving and compassionate young woman with a heart to serve others. She always had a beautiful smile and a gift for making others laugh. She had a crazy, bilingual, bi-cultural sense of humor and a deep love for her family and friends. Tarah's testimony literally spanned the globe and has touched many, many lives.

She was preceded in death by her maternal grandfather, Glen Carr; and paternal grandfather, Altis Powell.

Tarah is survived by her husband, Justin Phillips; son, Noah Phillips; parents, Mike and Renay Powell; sister, Tiffanie Burns and her husband, John; brother, Tyler Powell and his wife, Gina; two nephews, Scottie Burns and Connor Powell; two nieces, Kelli Powell and Avery Burns; maternal grandmother, Faye Carr; paternal grandmother, Mary Powell; and numerous other family members.

Visitation will be from 6:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M., Monday, September 3, 2012 at Northplace Church.

Service will be held at 10:00 A.M., Tuesday, September 4, 2012 at Northplace Church, 2709 3rd Street, Sachse, Texas 75048, Reverend Rick DuBose officiating. Interment will follow in Lake View Cemetery, Lavon, Texas.
