Sue Elizabeth Reed

April 15, 1930 — August 30, 2023

McKinney, Texas

Sue Elizabeth Reed was born April 15, 1930 in McKinney, Texas. She died at the age of 93 on August 30, 2023. Sue was the daughter of Thomas Benton Reed and Annie Gertrude Howell, both native Texans. She is preceded in death by her parents and three brothers, Bryan Kenneth Reed, Thomas Benton Reed, Jr., and Harold David Reed. She is survived by her sister, Janice Reed Porter. She never married or had children of her own, but was a loving aunt to 9 nephews and 3 nieces. Sue was a graduate of the original McKinney High School in 1949. Sue worked as a book keeper for 37 years for numerous insurance companies in McKinney and Dallas. Most notable are Colonial Manor Nursing Home, that was on the corner of College and Louisiana in McKinney, Pearl McCullough Income Tax, Lone Star Insurance in Dallas and Job Corp in McKinney. She became a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in 1959. She served in the Church faithfully and was often a secretary to the women's and children's organizations, keeping records. She witnessed the growth of the Church in the area from 1959 to 2023. In her early years she would travel to Sherman, Greenville and Dallas to attend church. Later, when McKinney had its own building and congregation, she watched the growth from 1 to 8 congregations in McKinney alone. Though she was home bound for the past 20 years, she kept in contact with her friends and family through daily phone calls in which she would impart a Quote of the Day. She had many of these quotes memorized. She made and kept many friends. There are many who will miss her and her wisdom and wit.
