Sharon Sloan

March 14, 1945 — September 14, 2020

Sharon Linda Sloan went home to Jesus on September 14, 2020, at age 75, after a three year battle with cancer.

Sharon was born to James and Rubye Blankenship on March 14, 1945 in San Marcos, Texas. Sharon was an only child, but her childhood was filled with many special memories of her cousins, aunts, uncles, and numerous friends. She spoke often and fondly of her summer trips to North Carolina and family gatherings in San Antonio.

Sharon met her husband, Vernon "Buck" Sloan, Jr. in 1960 in San Antonio, Texas. They married June 12, 1964, and went on to have two children, Doug Sloan of Bullard, Texas and Jaime (Sloan) Sturdivant of Bridgeport, Texas. Sharon was blessed with a daughter in law Jenny and a son in law Steve. The pride and joy of her life was her four grandchildren—Jared Sturdivant (25), Ryan Sloan (24), Megan Sturdivant (23), and Dylan Sloan (19). Sharon also had a granddaughter-in-law, Emily Sturdivant. Anyone who knew Sharon knew of her deep love and commitment to her family and specifically her grandchildren. Sharon was also an animal lover and claimed her dogs as her "other children." Throughout her entire life she held an unwavering faith in God, which she shared with those who surrounded her. We know that Sharon is no longer suffering, and is celebrating in Heaven.

Sharon enjoyed the beach, shopping, antiquing, and decorating. She told many stories of her days of playing tennis, traveling, and memories of family and friends. Sharon never met a stranger, and enjoyed talking to others. She was a competitive sports fan, and always enjoyed watching her grandchildren compete in their activities. Sharon resided in San Antonio, Waco, Arlington, McKinney and Tyler during her lifetime. Buck and Sharon also had a home in Rockport, Texas that they enjoyed spending time at the past several years, prior to her illness.

Sharon is preceded in death by her parents, James and Rubye Blankenship and her in-laws, Vernon and Ruth Sloan. She is also preceded in death by her lifelong best friends Roy and Linda Kokel, plus several cousins, aunts, and uncles.

A private family memorial service will be held on Saturday, September 19, 2020 at Charles W. Smith and Sons Funeral Home in McKinney, Texas.

The immediate family would like to extend an invitation to all for the celebration of Sharon's life at Fuzzy's (@University and Custer.) This will be a come and go event from 3:30-5:30 p.m. to come and offer condolences to the family and also celebrate a life well lived.
