Ruth Joan Johnson, age 81 of Rowlett, Texas passed away Sunday, January 29, 2023.  Ruth was born March 21, 1941 in Paterson, New Jersey to the late Ruth and David Rigg Jr.  Ruth graduated from Passaic Valley High School in 1959 and was a 1963 graduate of Montclair State University.  After graduation she began teaching high school history at her alma mater.  During the summer of 1964 Ruth and a few friends traveled to Europe.  While walking over the Ponte Vecchio bridge in Florence, Italy she met the love of her life, James Johnson, who was serving in the United States Air Force.  On August 14, 1965 they were married and began their life together in Texas.

Ruth was a loving wife, mother and an amazing grandmother.  She loved to travel, take long car rides and gardening, but most of all she loved spending time with her family.  She was a member of Rowlett Book & Garden Clubs, First Baptist Church of Garland and the National Multiple Sclerosis Society.

Ruth is survived by her husband James Johnson, children Terry Turner of Richardson, Texas and Steven Johnson and his wife Denise of Brookville, Pennsylvania, her grandchildren William Turner of Frisco, Texas, Nathan Turner of Richardson, Texas and Thaddeus Johnson of Brookville, Pennsylvania, a brother David Rigg III and his wife Elena of Jacksonville, Florida, a sister-in-law Judy Mayes of Dallas, Texas and Marjorie Lee a very close friend of the family from Little Falls, New Jersey and many nieces and nephews.  She was proceded in death by her parents.

In lieu of flowers, a donation may be made to the National Multiple Sclerosis Society.
