Robert Keith Voglesong

November 20, 1947 — November 8, 2020

Born November 20, 1947, at Methodist Hospital in Dallas, TX
Died November 8, 2020, in Mesquite, TX

Robert Keith grew up in Dallas, TX with his older sister, Sharon, and brother, George "Butch". The family spent time living with his grandmother Alexander, who he adored. He was very close with his family growing up and adored his stepfather, Cleo. His family never thought of each other as divided as "step or half" and Cleo was very much his father, just as much as Cherie was his little sister.

In school, he played trombone and was on the swim team. His hobbies included building model slot cars and he enjoyed racing them with his brother and friends in the shopping center. Daddy Cleo bought the boys motorcycles and they enjoyed riding them. Cherie burned her leg on the muffler once and that quickly ended their rides together.

He and his brother spent a lot of time together growing up. Keith and Butch built two real cars and raced at Devil's Bowl, Yellow Belly, and Green Valley Racetrack. He loved his Trans-Am car and worked hard to keep it in mint condition. When butch enlisted in the Navy, Robert decided to follow.

Grandmother Alexander had always called all her children by their middle name and did the same with the grandkids. She was the one who started calling him Keith, and he was happy to go by it until his little sister called him Keithie and embarrassed him with his friends. Since then, he began going by his first name, Robert.

As an adult, he worked for the US Post Office for several years before becoming a truck driver. Robert Keith Voglesong Sr. was also a Navy Veteran who served in the Vietnam War. While he was tight-lipped about his time in the service, he later struggled with lung cancer from the Agent Orange he was exposed to during his time in Vietnam.

His cousin introduced him to the love of his life Pam. He loved his wife and two sons, Robert Keith, Jr, and Jacob. He took the boys on truck drives with him when they were little, which they enjoyed. He also enjoyed building big wheels, tricycles, bicycles for them to ride. He especially enjoyed being a grandfather to his grandsons and looked forward to every visit.

He is preceded in death by his wife of 36 years, Pam Voglesong; grandparents, Maude & Frank Alexander; grandfather, George Ernest Voglesong; sister, Sharon Rabon and her husband, Don Rabon; father, George Voglesong; and stepfather, Cleo Tunnell.

Robert is survived by his mother, Louise Prior; sons, Robert Voglesong Jr. and Jacob Voglesong; brother, George Voglesong, Jr. "Butch"; sister, Cherie Tunnell-Hansard; and many nieces and nephews.

Love you brother,
Cherie Hansard
