Robert E. VanDyke

Robert “Bob” VanDyke, 66, of Garland, Texas passed away on Saturday, July 29, 2023, at Methodist Hospital in Richardson, Texas surrounded by his loving family. Bob was born on September 30, 1956, in Green Bay, Wisconsin.

Bob was in the optical business for over 40 years where he traveled to many states setting up and opening new stores with Eyemart Express. While working at Eyemart, Bob became the “ICON” and provided great support for everyone and was always known as the “problem solver.”  In his down time, he loved spending time with family and friends. He also spent much of his time helping to keep the light bill paid at one of his favorite places, Bleachers.

Bob was a devoted husband and father. He met the love of his life, Lillie, on February 21, 2003. He was an immeasurably funny person, the life of the party and made friends wherever he went. Bob’s sense of humor and big heart will be greatly missed by so many. 

Bob was greeted in heaven by his parents Butch and Helen VanDyke. Bob is survived by his wife Lillie and their children: Tim and Jennifer VanDyke, Ben and Rachel VanDyke, Emily and Bull Luedtke, Anthony Stovall and Anita, Kelli and Ryan Case, grandchildren: McKayla Copeland and Timmy VanDyke, Sophia and Abby VanDyke, Logan, Lainey and Charlee Luedtke, Riley, Reese, and Asher Case. He is also survived by his siblings: Sue and Jerry Gerend, Joe and Carol VanDyke, Jack and Linda VanDyke, Bill and Roxi VanDyke, Steve VanDyke, and Mikey VanDyke along with other extended family and many friends.

Funeral services for Bob will be Saturday, August 5, 2023, at 4:00pm at Charles W. Smith & Sons Funeral Home located at 2925 5th St, Sachse, Tx 75048.

There will be an additional Celebration of Life, Saturday, August 19, at 2:00 PM at Lucky’s Pub and Grill in Wrightstown, Wisconsin.

The family would like to express their sincere thanks to the Methodist Hospital ER and ICU staff for their care and comfort to Bob and the family.  Also, their deepest gratitude to Doug Barnes and the Eyemart Express family, to their many friends and family, for all of the support and love.
