love. Rick was 63 years old.
Rick was born in Childress, Texas, on April 14, 1960, to Joe Dan Cawthon and Judy Kay Devoll. He joined
the Air Force in 1978 and proudly served his country. Rick started his career with Southwest Airlines in
1983 as an aircraft mechanic. Rick was a family man and always put his family first. All who loved him will
cherish and keep his memory alive.
Rick raised three sons to be virtuous men, to have wisdom, courage, devotion, and to live justly.
Rick was married to his soulmate and partner in life, Paulette Cawthon, for almost thirteen years at the
time of his death.
Rick is survived by his wife, mother, siblings—brother Randy Cawthon and sister Danna Kent (husband
Curtis); his three sons from a previous marriage—Kris Cawthon (wife Brittany), Josh Cawthon (wife
Laine), Zach Cawthon (wife Mallory), and his stepchildren—Richard Payne (wife Stephanie), and Chelsea
Vander Tuig (husband Nick).
His eleven grandchildren provided joy in his heart and will forever remember the love from their Papaw:
(in order of birth) Cash Cawthon, Lauren Cawthon, Taylor Cawthon, Brody Cawthon, Luke Stiegler,
Cooper Cawthon, Harper Vander Tuig, Oliver Payne, Georgia Cawthon, Hudson Vander Tuig, and
Cameron Payne. Grandbaby (number twelve) is due in July 2024.
He will be remembered for his teasing jokes, witty humor, kindness, generosity, loving spirit, and
willingness to help anyone in need.
The family wishes to thank his doctors, notably Dr. Saif Ibrahim (cardiologist), and all the staff of Baylor
Scott & White–Lakepoint, who provided tireless, tender care and showed compassion and grace as he
fought a courageous battle.
Friends are invited to celebrate Rick’s life at a visitation on Thursday, April 11, from 6 - 8 p.m. at Charles
W Smith & Sons Funeral Home, 601 S. Tennessee, McKinney, Texas, and/or on Friday, April 12 at 11:30
a.m. at Brookhaven Church 6101 Stacy Road, McKinney, Texas. A graveside service will be held directly
after the church service at Pecan Grove Cemetery. Donations can be made to the American Heart
Association.
For as long as there is a memory of them, they live on in our hearts.
