Richard Kelsie Edington, 74, of McKinney, passed away on September 24, 2022, in McKinney.

He was born on May 5, 1948 in Dallas, to Kelsie and Grace Edington. Richard served ten years in the Marine Corp from 1966 to 1976 with time served deployed overseas and was honorably discharged. He was released from active duty at the rank of Corporal. He was a rifleman, serving in Vietnam. His awards include National Defense Service Medal, Vietnamese Service Medal, Vietnamese Campaign Medal, Presidential Unit Citation, Combat Action Ribbon, Purple Heart Medal, Good Conduct Medal and Vietnamese Cross of Gallantry. Richard was a member of the Kelsie Edington VFW Post, founded by his father. Richard was a proud Marine and wore his Marine hat with pride everywhere he went. He enjoyed camping and visiting with his grandkids.

He was preceded in death by his father, Kelsie Edington and mother Grace Jones Edington and closest friend Joe Thompson.

He is survived by his wife, Delores Edington, son Jamie Edington (Samantha), step daughter Julia Hernandez (Henry), step son Chris Castillo, granddaughter Faith Hardt (Brandon), 9 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren. Also surviving Richard are his sisters Rose Savage (Lee), Terry Greene and his brother Kelly Edington (Barbara). He leaves behind many nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews and a large group of cousins. Cremation was under the direction of Charles Smith & Sons Funeral Home. Richard will be interred with military honors at the Dallas Fort Worth National Cemetery on Tuesday, October 25, 2022 at 10:30 am 2000 Mountain Creek Parkway, Dallas, Tx 75211 with a gathering of family and friends, directly afterwards.
