Petalina Haswell, age 72, a cherished soul born in San Fernando, Trinidad and Tobago on January 1, 1952, embarked on her final journey to reunite with her Lord and Savior on March 14, 2024. Surrounded by the warmth of her family and loved ones, Petalina bid farewell to this world, leaving behind a legacy of love, faith, and unwavering strength.
At the tender age of 19, Petalina, affectionately known as "Pet," ventured beyond the shores of her homeland, seeking new horizons. It was at the age of 20 that she found her lifelong companion, Wesley Wayne Haswell Sr., and together they embarked on a journey filled with love, laughter, and shared dreams for 50-plus years.
Petalina's essence radiated kindness and intelligence, her heart overflowing with boundless love for her family and friends. While she was gentle and compassionate, she possessed a fierce protectiveness that ignited like a flame when it came to defending her loved ones. Her faith in the Lord was the cornerstone of her life, guiding her every step and illuminating her path with grace and compassion for all.
Throughout her life, Petalina pursued knowledge and excellence, earning an associate degree in science and embarking on a fulfilling career journey. From her early days as a Med Tec to her roles as a Lead Associate at Citicorp and Bank of America, and finally as a dedicated Real Estate agent at Coldwell Banker for over a decade, Petalina's professionalism and dedication were unmatched. Her impact extended far beyond the professional realm, as she treated everyone she encountered as family, extending her hand in grace and empathy to those in need.
Every Sunday, Petalina found solace and community at the Greenville Avenue Church in Richardson, TX, where she worshipped alongside fellow believers, finding strength and renewal in her faith.
Petalina's passing leaves a void in the lives of those who knew and loved her. She is preceded in death by her beloved parents, Ann Stephen, and Haynes Cummings, as well as her sister, Madonna (Stephen) Hunt, and brother, Peter Pollydore. She is survived by her devoted husband, Wesley Haswell Sr., and her siblings: Haynesley Stephen, Patrick Cummings, Hardy Cummings, Eddy Cummings, Fernand Cummings, Eric Cummings, Patricia Smith, Martin Williams, and Morgan Williams.
Petalina's memory will forever be cherished by her three children, Wesley Haswell Jr., Harold Haswell, and Darrel Haswell; her daughters-in-law, Aziah Haswell, and Smita Haswell; her fifteen grandchildren, and her three great-grandchildren.
In her honor, a Celebration of Life will be held at Charles W. Smith and Sons Funeral Home in Sachse, TX, on Saturday, March 23rd, 2024. As we gather to commemorate her life, let us remember Petalina for her unwavering faith, her boundless love for humanity, and the indelible mark she left on our hearts.
