Orville Ray Luther was born in Winnfield, Louisiana on January 18, 1948. He left us far too soon on April 9, 2023 at the age of 75.  He was a hero, having earned many medals, including a purple heart, while serving 21 years in the United States Navy. He continued his service after retiring from the military for another 18 years as a Sheriffs deputy. He committed his life to protecting and serving this country and his family. He was an amazing man, and an even better husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend.

Orville, or as he liked to be called, Ray was an honest and independent man. He loved to talk to everyone and give them the knowledge he possessed over all subjects. He enjoyed talking about his days in the Navy and was proud of the time he served. Ray was never a quitter, and to the very end he fought to always be the best person he could be. He was a stubborn man who never stayed down for long, and he will be missed greatly by his family.

Ray is survived by many; Son Cheston with his daughters Marissa and Andrea; Son Chad with his child Skylar; Son Nathan and Wife Christy with their children Aubrey, McKenzie, Grayson and Ainsley; Grandchildren Devon, Hailey, and Mia; Son Stephen and his wife Robyn and their children Caydee, Trace, Harper, Adeline and Mason; Son Anthony and children Logan and Gabriel; Daughter Jennifer; Daughter Sunny; Grandson Wade and wife Tania; Grandson Michael and wife Rosie and their children; Granddaughter Sophia and her husband Ryan and their children, as well as his brothers, sisters, many other grandchildren, nieces, nephews and friends.

Ray was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 40 years Betty Luther; parents Goldie (Pat) Tarver and Alfred Luther; Daughter Rusty, as well as other family and friends. We know when he got there, that they were all waiting for him to greet him with open arms and expressed how much they missed him.
