Mel was a Son, brother, father, grandfather, uncle, and a Vietnam Veteran. As a 15 year old teenager he dove into a public swimming pool and saved a 6 year old child from drowning. He was acknowledged by the city mayor for his heroic act. He received the American Legion Medal school award.
Mel received a certificate completing the Seabee Petty Officer Indoctrination course, United States Naval Construction Training. He served in the fields of Vietnam during the Vietnam war as a Seabee operating heavy equipment to serve his country and received an Honorable Discharge from the United States Navy.
Mel graduated from Sterling Hish School in 1966. As he valued education he went on to acquire his Associates degree at Sauk Valley community college and was a member of Phi Theta Kappa Fraternity. He studied music and performing arts. He built a beautiful Flemish harpsichord from beginning to end which he played with accomplishment. He performed with the Rock Falls Boys Choir to debut with the completed harpsichord. He worked at Whiteside County Airport in Rock Falls, Illinois where he learned to fly airplanes. Mel was also a Manager and Executive in various businesses where he was employed. Melvin L. Snitchler last resided in Frisco, Tx where he spent his retired years singing
in choirs and enjoying activities at the Senior Center.
Preceded in death is his brother, Daniel Ray Snitchler, his father Percy H Snitchler
and his mother, Bessie W. Snitchler (Perkins-Deets) He is survived by his sister, Bessie L. (Snitchler) Reeverts husband Dave, nieces Jodie K. (Reeverts) Brown, husband Dave, Angelica B. (Reeverts) Lindberg, husband Calvin, great niece Catalina B. (Lindberg) Baggett, husband Stephen, great nephew Trevor J. Lindberg Great great nephew Sterling J. Baggett. Mel was blessed with extended family members through marriage (Cindy). Daughter-Joanne Bender; grandchildren, Damien, Allie, Brittney, Andruw and Brayden Bender, Great grandchildren are Jazmyn Bender, Evalyn Haedyn and Hudsyn Krug. Daughter-Michelle Liebenstein, grandsons Caden and Grant Liebenstein.
Mel accepted Christ as a child and now is in the loving care of his creator
