Mattie Lorraine "Rainey" Brown
February 13, 1944-November 26, 2020

Rainey was born February 13, 1944 in Moro, Arkansas to Gracie Ann and Winfred Thomas Gray. Her given name was Rosie Mae Gray. She had 2 sweet sisters, Birtha Mae Middlebrook and Rosie Lee Campbell and a dear brother, Earvin Gray. At the tender age of 14 months, her mother was called home to be with our Lord. Uncertain of his ability to care for a young baby, her father placed her for adoption. Rosie Mae Gray was lovingly adopted by Clint and Mary West, they gave her the name Mattie Lorraine West, known to so many now as Rainey, Mom, Nanny and Aunt Rosie Mae. By the grace of God, she was reunited with her birth family in 1994.
To Rainey, family was everything. Beloved wife and friend of 61 years to James Brown. Much loved mother to Gena Ross & husband Mark, Terie Richards & husband Lloyd, Mark Brown, David Brown & wife Lisa and Donna Juarez & husband Luis. She treasured her family and embraced every moment with them. She especially loved her role as Nanny to her precious grandchildren Donald, Justin, Jessica, Jeremy, Jacob, Sarah, Kaitlin, EJ, Kathryn, Heather, Daniela and Diego as well as her cherished great grandchildren Nathaniel, Olivia, Antonio and Robbie.
Over the years, she thoroughly enjoyed holiday celebrations, family camping trips, fishing with friends as well as going to the casino, playing pool with dear friends and lunch dates with her girls. Whatever she did, it was with an enthusiasm that proved contagious. She gave the best hugs.
On November 26, 2020, Thanksgiving Day, Rainey joined her birth parents and siblings along with her adopted parents for their Heavenly Celebration.
She will forever be loved and treasured by all who knew her.
