Leon 'Smitty' Stevenson

March 3, 1947 — January 24, 2022

Leon "Smitty" Stevenson was born in DeQuincy, LA on March 3, 1947. He departed this life on January 24, 2022, at Medical City Hospital in Plano, TX. He was the first-born child of the late Oscar Stevenson, Sr. and Vera Mae Grant-Stevenson.

Smitty graduated Valedictorian from Grand Avenue High School in 1965. He attended Southern University and A&M College in Baton Rouge, LA., where he participated in the Army ROTC program and became a member of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity. He graduated from Southern University with a B.A. in Marketing.
Smitty served as a 1st Lieutenant in the U.S. Army. He later received an M.B.A. from Nova Southeastern University in Ft. Lauderdale, FL.

Smitty worked in marketing for Shell Oil Company for over 10 years. He was so successful in the oil and gas industry that he decided to branch out and go into business for himself. He opened his first Shell Oil service station in Ft. Lauderdale, FL. The company was very proud of him, and they supported his endeavors. He was a successful entrepreneur and business owner developing businesses in real estate, car dealerships/car rental, beauty and clothing retail enterprises, restaurants, and insurance companies. He opened Ford, Lincoln, and Mercury car dealerships in Texas.

Smitty enjoyed spending time with family and friends, traveling, good football, and discussing current events and politics.

Smitty leaves to cherish his memory his loving wife of 53 years, Teddie Stevenson, and daughter, Leondria Stevenson; two sisters, Jacqueline Stevenson and Clara Levan (Darrell) both of DeQuincy, LA; one brother, Tommy Snell (Alberta) of Fort Lauderdale, FL; an aunt, Thelma Johnson of Port Allen, LA; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Smitty was preceded in death by his parents, and two brothers, Oscar Stevenson and Joseph Stevenson.

The family wishes to express their gratitude and thankfulness for all the kindness shown to them during the loss of their loved one.
