Laura Schneider

d. May 21, 2021

Laura Schneider, 71 closed her eyes in death peacefully early Friday May 21, 2021 after an unbelievable and courageous battle with a stage 4 cancer diagnosed in 2018. She is now helping God and St. Francis in taking care of the homeless dogs and cats that had to cross the Rainbow Bridge without a companion.

Laura was born and raised in Grand Rapids Michigan where she attended Grand Rapids Catholic Central High School. She began her career in the insurance business shortly after her graduation in 1968. She was married to husband of 47 years in 1974. It was the insurance business that had them both transfer to Dallas, TX in 1977. Laura remained in the insurance and finance business until her retirement as a finance manager for Raytheon Corp. in 2018.

She did attend college courses through the years but always made it clear that she was not after a degree. She took only classes that had subject matter she was interested in and these included just three fields. All of her learning in higher education was in Psychology, History and Finance. Her passions in life also included three things – Indy Car Racing, College Football and sports betting on college football. She did enter heaven knowing she was ahead of the casinos in these football wagers over the years. She also donated countless hours to animal welfare groups across the Dallas metroplex and we ask that any donations be made to Operation Kindness Dallas which is a no kill pet adoption charity.

Laura's battle displayed so much strength and fight it was a big inspiration to everyone that knew her. In any conversation she was more interested in knowing how others were doing rather than talking about herself and her complaints only centered around how many months it was going to be before Notre Dame was going to play football again.

Survivors include her husband Steve and her sister Jan (Denny) Goble as well as a dear cousin that she grew up with so closely she called sister - Sandra Becker. In addition She is survived by her brother and sister in laws Larry ( Jane ) Schneider, Dan (Carol ) Schneider, Mike Schneider, Gretchen (Richard ) Mikula, Kathi ( Tom ) Mailand and Martha ( Mike ) Huenke. Laura had 25 nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her parents Anthony and Margaret Kiel as well as two sisters Kay and Peggy.
