Kenneth Royal Sorrell died Sunday morning December 26, 2021 of complications due to Prostate cancer that migrated to his organs and bones. His last residence was Appletree Court Assisted living in Richardson, TX, where he had thrived for 6 months. His wife Hazel Sorrell preceded him in death on June 23, 2012. He leaves behind his children Daniel Sorrell of Waxahachie TX, Lynette Sorrell-Wood of Garland TX, Shawn Sorrell of Kansas City MO, Grandchildren Jesse Sorrell of Edmond OK, John Wood of Richardson TX, and Sarah Sorrell-Perry of Liberty, MO, and Great Grandchildren Caitlin Sorrell and Carolynn Sorrell of Edmond, OK.
Kenneth was an Air Force veteran, having spent 20 years as an aircraft mechanic, maintenance scheduler and administrator. After retiring from the Air Force, he completed his Bachelor's degree and continued his education with two Master's degrees and a Doctorate's degree. He then served in the Christian ministry first as an associate pastor then as senior pastor in churches in the Kansas City area from 1974 to 1981. From 1981 to 1990 he served as a missionary in the country of Nigeria, Africa. After returning home Kenneth again served as the senior pastor at Country Meadows Baptist Church in Kansas City, MO from 1992 to 1996. Kenneth and Hazel then prepared for retired life and moved to McKinney, TX. They lived together in Texas for the remainder of their lives.
A memorial service will be held at Big Springs Baptist Church 6538 N. Jupiter Rd., Garland, Texas 75044 on Saturday, January 15, 2022 at 11:00 a.m.
