John Ray

April 10, 1930 — October 21, 2020

John Edward Ray, age 90, passed away October 21, 2020. He was born April 10, 1930 in Waldo, Arkansas to Jewell and Marie Ray. He married the love of his life, Patsy Ray, on Christmas day in 1953. For almost 67 years, they exemplified the beauty of a Godly marriage. Patsy passed away on September 30. Johnny followed her 21 short days later. Today, they can once again hold one another without the veil of Alzheimer hanging between them.

How do we describe John E. in a few short paragraphs? It is impossible! He was small in stature, but had a heart big as Texas. He was a patriot, serving his country in the Korean war with an Army medical unit. He was the most giving person one could ever meet. He was a hard-working man. We had to remind him that Rome wasn't built in one day. What we didn't know, he was in a hurry to finish the current project because he was already planning a couple more! He was never afraid to tackle any project, no matter how large or small. He always seemed to tackle each project or task with great enthusiasm! We compared him to the energizer bunny, always busy, never stopping.

Johnny's greatest love was for his family. His family included his relatives, his customers that he served thru his business, his church family at Landmark, his pastor, any evangelist that ministered at Landmark, anyone he found that needed a helping hand, and of course, Jesus. He loved Jesus. He loved reading his Bible. One of his goals each year was to read his Bible thru. He was always talking to Jesus. Wednesday morning about 1:30 AM, I helped him back into bed and helped him get settled into his comfortable spot. He said, "Thank you Jesus, I love you Jesus.". Those were his last words in this life. Thirty minutes later, he was talking to Jesus face to face. What an example of living for Christ!

Johnny is survived by his daughter Belinda Bryant and husband Mark; son Dwayne Ray and wife Debbie; and grandchildren Anthony Bryant, Monica Jones, Stephany Ray, Brittaney Motes, ten great grandchildren and one great-great-grandson. Johnny is preceded in death by his wife Patsy Ray, his parents, brothers Arthur, Willey and W.T. Ray, sister Carrinne Scott and one great-great-granddaughter Olivia Kenny.
