John Max Martin

January 25, 1930 — April 23, 2012

John Max Martin, 82, of Garland, passed away on April 23, 2012 at his home with his family by his side. He lost his short battle with lung cancer and fight with Myelofibrosis for the past 2 years. His family gives thanks and praise to Our Heavenly Father for blessing us with his life. Max was born on January, 25, 1930 in Eufaula, OK. On July 3, 1953, Max married Jessye Mae Grubbs in Dallas, Texas. He graduated from Crozier Tech High School and attended SMU. Max served in the Army Air Force from 1947 to 1951. He worked for Continental Insurance for 30 years. He went on to work for Olan Mills as a photographer. In 1986, Max started his own business, Freight-Gard-Audit Services, until his retirement in 2007. Max loved golfing, football, and traveling. He enjoyed going camping with his family as the kids were growing up. He spent many, many hours in his organic garden. He was actively involved at the Garland Senior Citizen Center in The Retired and Senior Volunteer Program. He would give his time for picking up items for Bingo & other activities at the Senior Citizen Center. He also gave his time visiting the local hospitals providing visitation services. Max is survived by the love of his life of almost 59 years, Jessye; son John "Chip" Martin and wife Becky of Carrollton, TX, son Michael Martin and wife Renee’ of McKinney, TX, and daughter Mitzie Nolen and husband Larry of Garland, TX; grandchildren Chris Nolen, Brittane Smith and husband Taylor, Kaitlyn Martin, Grayson Martin, and Josh Martin; brother Frank Martin and wife Terry, sister Martha Barnes, and many nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends. Memorial services will be held at 2:00 p.m., on Friday, April 27, 2012, at Eastgate Funeral Home Chapel in Garland, Texas.
