John Douglas Hays

John Douglas Hays of Wylie, TX passed away after a long battle with cancer on November 25, 2022. He was born August 19, 1947 in Mt. Pleasant, TX. He spent two years in the Air Force. John enjoyed a long career at Texas Utilities in the Inventory Management Department. He was a beloved son, brother, father, husband, and papa. John enjoyed the outdoors, travelling in his RV, and helping those in need. John devoted himself to his family and treasured the time he spent with them. He never met a stranger and was so generous to everyone. John is survived by his wife, Lynn Hays; his daughter, Julie Murphy; his son James Hays and wife Megan Hays; his sister Janice Hammonds; his three wonderful grandchildren, Kailee Hays, Cole Murphy, and Sydney Murphy; and nephews Randy and Trent Hammonds. He was preceded in death by his mother, Marie Hays; his father, John Hays; his son in law, Steve Murphy; his grandchild, Baylor Clair Hays; and his nephew, Brad Heimer. Services will be held Thursday December 1, 2022 at 10 a.m. at The Heights Baptist Church in Richardson, TX. Visitation will be Wednesday November 30, 2022 from 5-7 p.m. at Charles W. Smith Funeral Home in Lavon, TX. Burial will follow at the Lake View Cemetery in Lavon, TX.
