John Dobek

John Dobek, 78, of Sachse, Texas, passed away on February 1, 2024. He was born on June 17, 1945 in Irvington, New Jersey and lived in West Haven, Connecticut through high school. John was a faithful servant of his Lord and a loving son, brother, uncle, father, husband, grandfather, and friend.

John is survived by his sister, Barbara Campel, three daughters, Cheri (John) Still, Rhonda (Rob) Polanco, and Jessica (Matt) Clark, eight grandchildren Matthew (Lauren) Still, Allyson (George) Solorzano, Samantha (Seth) Rorke, Ryan Still, Michael (Dani) Still, Madeline Rorke, Zachary Clark, and Mallory Clark, and one great-grandchild Amelia Solorzano. John will also be remembered by his nephews and niece John, Paul and Shelly.

He was preceded in death by his mother Patricia Dobek, father Leo A Dobek, stepmother Genowefa Dobek, wife Jo-Ann Dobek, and grandchild Katrina Polanco. John attended Notre Dame High School in West Haven, Connecticut. During these years, he met Jo-Ann who he would later marry on February 12, 1966. The military allowed them to travel the world and they welcomed three daughters together. Their love remained strong for 45 years of marriage until Jo-Ann’s passing in 2011. John proudly served in the United States Air Force for 20 years and retired in San Angelo, Texas where he resided for many years to follow. After serving in the military, John worked for John Deere for 27 years. He then moved to Dallas to be close to his daughters.

He was an active member of the church choir and enjoyed all things music. John’s other interests included trains, motorcycles, sailing, shooting, and camping. He was a loyal friend to all those he loved. John was known for his strong faith and the compassion he showed others, like when he taught catechism classes for many years. He was an active member of all parishes he attended, most recently All Saints Catholic Church and St. Anthony’s Catholic Church. He was so very loved by his family, friends, and community.

Visitation and rosary will be held at Charles W. Smith Funeral Home in Sachse, Texas on Monday, 2/5/24 from 6-8 pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at All Saints Catholic Church in Dallas, Texas on Tuesday, 2/6/24 at 11 am. Well-wishers may donate to the Dementia Society of America if desired.
