Janice Rose Henderson, 64 of Plano passed away December 2nd, 2021 at Medical City Plano following a battle with cancer. She was born on November 30th, 1957 in Dayton, Ohio as the 5th child to her loving parents, Audrey and Lloyd Hilliard. Janice was a 1976 graduate of Lancaster High School. She received her bachelors in Elementary Education from Ohio University. Though she moved away from Ohio many years ago, she always kept one foot in Lancaster, wanting her children to know her roots. Janice met her husband of 33 years, Charles in St. Louis where they had their two children, Nicholas and Christina. The family relocated to Plano, Texas where they remained until her passing.
Janice was a compassionate and dedicated educator for over 20 years. She served her community as a teacher in a number of roles. Her fellow teachers respected her take-charge attitude and no nonsense approach.
Janice loved travel, college football, gardening, her family and dogs. Anyone who knew her understood her love for her golden retrievers, her most loyal companions. But all of that paled in comparison to her love of being a grandmother. Her grandson brought her more joy than any other earthly being could.
Janice is survived by her husband, Charles Henderson; her children Nicholas (Sydney Frazier) Henderson and Christina Henderson; grandson Owen Henderson; and siblings John (Kathleen) Hilliard, Paul (Robin) Hilliard, Gail (Jay) Beck; as well as countless cousins, nieces and nephews. Her parents, Audrey and Lloyd Hilliard, and her brother, Gary Hilliard, preceded her in death.
A visitation will take place at Charles W. Smith Funeral Home in McKinney, Texas on Friday, December 17th from 6:00-8:00pm. A memorial service will be held at Suncreek United Methodist Church in Allen, Texas on Saturday, December 18th at 10:00am.
While our Janice loved flowers, we ask you instead contact your local school and make a donation going towards any outstanding library or lunch balances. She would love to know her life devoted to children would be honored in this way.
