Henry Oscar Harwell, 86, passed away from complications of Alzheimer’s Disease on February 21, 2024.   He went to be with Jesus while surrounded by his loving family at his home in Sachse, Texas. Henry was born in Nashville, Arkansas on March 30, 1937, to Melmuth Winfield Harwell and Lura Lee Holcomb Harwell. He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Mary Ellen Killian; brothers, Melmuth Lee “ML” Harwell, William Thomas Harwell, Robert Eugene Harwell, Haskell Hansford Harwell, and Jerry Earnest Harwell.

Henry loved his family. He was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, son, and brother. He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Betty Compton Harwell; daughter, Lisa Faye Camp and husband, Greg, of Sachse, Texas; son, Dennis Kirk Harwell and wife, Susan, of Telephone, Texas; grandson, Stephen Camp and wife, Tacha, of Sachse, Texas; great-grandsons, Phoenix Camp and Orion Camp of Sachse, Texas; Sisters, Elizabeth Jane Wood of Rensselaer, Indiana, and Judy Ann Foglia of Garland, Texas; brother, Jack Benjamin Harwell of Bellville, Texas; a special sister-in-law, Nina Compton Underwood, of Sachse, Texas; many nieces, nephews, and other family. Most of his friends preceded him to heaven.

Henry was a veteran of the U.S. Navy. He was known as “Hank” by his shipmates and co-workers. After his discharge from the Navy, he began his 35-year work career for Collins Radio Company / Rockwell International. After retiring, he continued to work for them as a contract employee off and on for another eight years, for a total of 43 years with the same company.

Henry loved the Lord and his church. He was a long-time member of Lavon Drive Baptist Church in Garland, Texas. After his health failed, and he could no longer drive, in order to have transportation to church, he became a member of Lighthouse Baptist Church in Wylie, Texas.

Henry loved to travel. His work career with Rockwell / Collins took him to many interesting places around the world. Extended trips included his family. After full retirement, he especially loved camping, fishing, and traveling in his RVs.  Being a Navy man, he also loved to go on cruises.

Henry was a kind, humble, godly man of integrity. His love for the Lord was plain to see. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
