Gregory Alan Murphree

Gregory (Greg) Alan Murphree was born in Dallas, Texas, on December 20, 1956, and died unexpectedly from complications of diabetes May 30, 2012, in Mesquite, Texas. He was preceded in death by his father Glenn Harry Murphree who died in Houston, Texas, August 20, 1972.
Greg is survived by his mother Grace Morrison, his sister Gina Hedgecock and nephew Adam Hedgecock, his Aunt Sandra Davis, cousin Kenneth Davis, and many Murphree family members. Greg graduated from Clear Lake High School in the Clear Creek ISD south of Houston where most of the children graduated whose family members were employed at the NASA Johnson Space Center or its contractors.
Greg loved sailing and frequently crewed during sailboat races on Clear Lake or Galveston Bay. He worked at a sail shop and attended Pasadena Junior College studying electronics. He did not want to be responsible for keeping a heart monitor or other medical equipment working when an individual was dependent upon the machine. He moved to Mesquite where he worked as a machinist at Texacone, installed wood shutters for David Murphree’s Shutters, and in succeeding years accumulated many light industrial skills. He was a "Man of Many Talents."
Greg generously helped friends and neighbors repair their cars, lawn mowers, plumbing, air conditioners, computers, home appliances, and/or any other item when asked. He built dog houses, fences, and replaced brakes. We have tried to contact persons who might be expecting and waiting for Greg to come to their rescue on a project he offered to help fix. We will all miss Greg’s long-winded explanations about how things work.
A Memorial Service will be held June 7 at 7:00 p.m. at St. Stephen United Methodist Church, 2520 Oates Drive, Mesquite, Texas 75150. Phone: 972-279-3112. The family has asked that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to St. Stephen UMC, the Muscular Dystrophy Association, or the charity of their choice.
