Gladys "Marie" Inman Smith

December 20, 1932 — July 20, 2022

Gladys Marie Inman Smith passed away peacefully in McKinney Texas on July 20, 2022. She was born in Childress Texas on December 20, 1932.

She is preceded in death by her mother and father, Edward Pleasant "'Ed" and Gladys "Mamie" Pearl Austin Inman; brother Edwin Inman; and husband, Eldon W. Smith.

She is survived by her son and daughter in law, Ron and Delores Smith of McKinney, TX, granddaughter Madelyn Smith of McKinney and grandson Logan Smith of Burlington, Vermont.

Marie attended Hardin-Simmons University in Abilene, TX where she graduated with a Degree in English. She as a member of the HSU Cowgirl's spirit organization, chapel choir and the yearbook staff. She then gained a master's degree in Elementary Education from McMurray University.

At HSU she met her life-long love Eldon, and they were married in Austin, TX on June 30, 1955, and were together until Eldon's death on July 18, 2011.

Marie spent her work years as an elementary teacher in Round Rock, Carey, Abilene, Bovina and finally Clovis, NM until she retired in 1978. She developed many friends over the years especially those at their home church, First Baptist Clovis, where Marie engaged in the WMU, and taught Sunday School while Eldon served as a deacon and elder. They moved to Van Alstyne, TX in 2006 to be near their grandkids and were active at First Baptist Van Alstyne making many friends there.

Marie resided at Stonefield Memory Care in McKinney the past 8 years. The family would like to express special thanks to Suzie Jones and her staff for taking such loving care of her during her declining years.

Visitation and brief Memorial Service will be Monday August 1 (3 -5pm) at Charles W Smith & Son's Funeral Home, 601 S Tennessee St, McKinney, TX 75069. Marie will be buried at Childress (TX) Cemetery at a later date.

In lieu of flowers the family would appreciate donations be sent to the Senior Adult Designated Account of First Baptist McKinney (In Honor of Marie Smith; c/o Randy Morlan, Minister of Sr. Adults and Pastoral Care). 1615 W Louisiana, McKinney, TX 75069.
