Ellen Roberta Rice Battles was a strong, life-long Christian, adored Grandmother, treasured Mother, beloved wife, sister and friend. After a long medical battle with congenital heart failure and Dementia and Alzheimer's she peacefully left this world on October 19, 2021 at the age of 75.
Ellen was born to Henry and Eula Rice in Clarksville, Texas on January 12, 1946 and was the 6th of 10 children. She graduated from high school in Mesquite, Texas and in 1965 married the love of her life,Charles Everett Battles. Together they raised two daughters, Robin and Mary Kay in Seagoville.
Loved ones who preceded her in death include her husband, Charles Everett Battles after 27 years of marriage; Father, Henry Allen Rice; Mother, Eula May Rice; Brothers - Roy Allen Rice, Travis Henry Rice,and Kenneth Ray Rice; Sisters -- Cornelia Mae Rice, Barbara Laverne Pounds Ramirez, and Shirley Ann Rice Rodden; Granddaughter, Maegan Debra McAnally and Grand dog, Bentley Battles.
Ellen is survived by her brothers Wayne and Doug Rice and sister, Judy Pierce and her daughters & sons-in-law - Robin & Danny Bradley and Mary Kay & Mark McAnally; Four (4) Grandchildren -- Charles Lindley Battles, Christin Caye Bradley, Mason Donovan McAnally, and Marshall Derrick McAnally; as well as five(5) Great-Grandchildren – Kya, Kamren, Korey, Keira and Brooklyn.
Before Dementia cruelly took over her life there was always something baking or cooking in Ellen's kitchen. She loved spending time with family and friends but most especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Among her favorite travel destinations were any length of cruises, relaxing at the beach and travelling to the mountains. Ellen loved planning family reunions, was an avid church-goer and always had a smile for everyone she met. Her time on this world may have ended but the impact she has made to so many will live on forever.
