Delma R Cunningham

Delma Raye Cunningham, of Murphy, Texas died at home in Princeton, Texas on October 18, 2023; she was 88 years old.

Delma is survived by her three sons Philip of Blueridge Texas, Bruce of Sulphur Springs, and Darren of Princeton, Texas. Delma has five surviving grandchildren including Christopher Willis, Matthew Cunningham, Travis Cunningham, Katherine Holm, and John Cunningham. Delma is also survived by three great grandchildren, Hailey Willis, Conner Willis, and Wesson Holm. She is preceded in death by her husband Leeman Cunningham and grandson Philip Warren Key Cunningham, parents Oles Simons and Effie Simons. Also, six siblings including Glenwood, Dalton, Carl, Victor, Lavon and sister Geneva; Delma has four surviving siblings Lou Ann, Barbara, Lanell and Johnny. Delma leaves numerous nieces, nephews’ and cousins.

Delma was born on June 9, 1935 in Chatham, Louisiana to Oles and Effie Simons. She was the oldest of eleven. She started school in Chatham, Louisiana and finished in 1953. Delma worked odd jobs until 1955, when she met and married Leeman and moved to Dallas to start their lives together. The couple moved to Murphy Texas in 1969 and raised their family there. Delma worked at E-Systems Inc / Raytheon inc. for 32 years retiring in 1996. After retirement, Leeman and Delma enjoyed being active, they were members of the First Baptist Church of Wylie, Texas, they were involved in helping raise their grandchildren, and they enjoyed traveling and camping with their family and friends.

Delma passed away peacefully after a brief struggle with her health. The family is very appreciative of the prayers and support offered by so many during the last several months. She will be remembered as a gentle, kind, and compassionate woman who deeply loved God and her family and made many lives better by just being herself.

A public visitation will be Saturday October 21, 2023 from 11:00 to noon at The Cross Church of Wylie. The funeral service will follow at 1:00 and burial at Blue Ridge cemetery in Blue Ridge Texas. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Delma’s life. Services entrusted to Charles W. Smith & Sons of Sachse, Texas.
