David Tolf Somerville

David Somerville, 86, passed away at home on May 28th, in Murphy, TX. Dave was born on July 30, 1937, in Chicago, IL to Thomas and Helen (née Tolf) Somerville. After graduating from Fenger High school in 1955, he received his undergraduate degree from Coe College in Iowa in math and physics. He then completed his graduate degree in physics from Michigan State University. He played baseball throughout high school and college and was a life long fan of the Cubs and the Texas Rangers.
His career in microelectronics began with Collins Radio in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, which then took him to Rockwell in Richardson in 1972. In 1985 he joined Englehard in New Jersey as Director of Precious Metals which took him to many places around the world.
He was on the board and then President of the International Society of Microelectronics from 1974 to 1982. After returning to Texas in 1990, he joined RFMonolithics in Addison as VP of operations and later VP of Quailty Assurance until his retirement in 2005.
He married Mary Stuart Setty in 2000, after a 15 year courtship and became a member of First UMCPlano at that time.
Dave is preceded in death by his parents and his brother Tom.
He is survived by his wife Mary, daughter Christy Gevik (Rob), sons Jeff Somerville (Dana), Lee Setty and Marc Setty (Landon),
7 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren.
There will be a memorial service at Charles W Smith Funeral Home 2925 5th St, Sachse, TX 75048
A graveside service at Myrtle Cemetery in Ennis, Texas will follow. The Reverend Mark Lucke presiding.
