Daniel Douglas Fletcher, 41, died on Monday, Aug. 13, 2012, at his home in Plano, Texas, after a 15-month battle with cancer.


Graveside services will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday, Aug. 17, at Wilson Chapel Cemetery in Lowry Crossing.

Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Thursday at Charles W. Smith and Sons Funeral Home, 601 S. Tennessee St., in McKinney.


He was born on Feb. 10, 1971, in Dallas to Deane Durwood Fletcher II and Judy Box Fletcher. He graduated from Plano Senior High School and the University of North Texas before taking advanced coursework in anthropology at the University of Texas at Arlington and Southern Methodist University. He later earned his paralegal certification from the University of Texas at Dallas.


He was an English teacher in Japan, where he studied Ninjutsu under Grandmaster Masaaki Hatsumi, attaining the rank of 7th Dan. He was an actor, author, musician, singer, stand-up comedian, juggler, unicycle-rider and a maker of weapons and armor.


He is survived by his parents; daughter Jessica Kiyo Nishyama Fletcher of Chiba Prefecture, Japan; sisters and brothers-in-law Robyn and Howard Acevedo of Princeton, Texas; and Melanie and Steve Browne of Katy, Texas; brother and sister-in-law Chris and Suzanne Fletcher of Columbia, Tenn.; and a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews who loved him dearly.
