Charles Russell Hamilton, Jr. was born on May 10, 1934 to Grace Burns and Charles Russell Hamilton in Chewalla, Tennessee. He was raised by his uncle Jake where he helped run the family farm raising cotton and other crops.
In the 1950s, Charles moved to Dallas, where he met and married Marilyn Wilson in 1955. They moved to Garland and had three children. Charles Russell, Sharon Kay, and Michael Lee. They lost Sharon to leukemia when she was three years old. Charles and Marilyn divorced in 1960. Charles worked for the city of Garland leading a survey crew, then used his expertise to run his own successful business, Garland Asphalt Co. for many decades.
Charles later met and married JoAnn Meredith who he deeply loved and shared many pleasures like country music and fishing. They blended their families, including Donald, Gerald, and Sherryl Cooley. They have been close for over fifty years. Charles lost his eldest son Charles in 2008.
Charles spent his many years fully enjoying his life traveling with JoAnn and spending time with their children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. He succumbed to the effects of Parkinson's on June 24, 2022.
He was a loving father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend to many. Charles was also a Mason with the Garland Masonic Lodge for 55 years. He will be greatly missed.
Funeral service for Charles R. Hamilton, Jr. will be held at Charles W. Smith and Sons Funeral Home in Sachse, Texas on July 1st, 2022 at 10 AM. In lieu of flowers, the family would like to request donations to the Scottish Rite for Children in memory of Charles Russell Hamilton Jr.
