Charles Wayne Baker

July 27, 1950 — December 16, 2021

On December 16, 2021, at 71 years of age, Charles Wayne Baker entered Heaven's gates into the loving arms of Jesus.

Charles was born to Bonnie and Lawrence Baker at home in Dallas, TX on July 27, 1950. After graduating from Garland High School class of 1968, he continued his education at El Centro College. In 1978 he joined the US Postal Service in Garland, TX and worked there as a letter carrier until retiring.

To Charles, his family was everything. One of his greatest joys in life was being a dad and then a grandad. When it came to parenting, he had an infinite amount of love, wisdom, energy and patience to share. He took great pride in his children and grandchildren. He was always happiest when around his family.

Charles was a huge sports fan, football and baseball his favorites. Being The Dallas Cowboys' greatest fan, he loved to watch and share the game with any and everyone. As a boy he played baseball and as a man he coached and played softball. He had some fond memories of coaching the women's softball team at First Baptist Sachse. Charles also enjoyed being outdoors and fishing. He was someone who was adventurous and loved to learn. His thirst for knowledge of the Bible, religions and world history were unprecedented.

In May of this year Charles was diagnosed with two types of stage 4 cancer. Even in the midst of this, his positive attitude and continuing perseverance never wavered. He continued to surprise his doctors with his improving bloodwork numbers each visit. Thursday night on December 9 he was rushed to the ER because he could not catch his breath amid coughing. He tested positive for Covid. On December 16, while surrounded by his family in prayer and hymns, he died peacefully in his hospital room at Richardson Methodist Hospital in Richardson, TX.

Charles was preceded in death by his parents, Lawrence and Bonnie Baker, his sister, Frankie Long and his nephew, Stevie Reid.

Charles will be remembered for his love, laughs, teachings and memories through his family; Judy Baker, his children, Cristina Valdez, Kelly Baker and Jonathan Baker and his grandchildren: Preston Clayton, Matthew Clayton, Jacey Conn, Kaden Conn, Ryan Valdez, Oliver Moberly and Tristan Valdez.
