Bob McCaghren

December 3, 1929 — November 20, 2011

Clifford Hugh ("Bob") McCaghren was born at the beginning of the Great Depression of the 1930s, and that made a lifelong impression on him. He always remembered "when Cokes cost a nickel" and liked to shop in Goodwill stores. He was a humble man who cared truly and profoundly for his family; who had a habit of collecting things from garage and yard sales and had a tendency to adopt stray dogs (or cats).
His generosity and his sense of humor were remarkable and memorable to most anybody who ever knew him, sometimes even legendary to those closest to him.
He was proud of his sixty-plus years’ marriage to Jean, whom he has missed terribly since she passed away in July 2008. Their love was true and enduring.
He was proud to be a Dallas Fireman for about thirty years until he was forced into retirement due to health problems. He had a great work ethic, inherited from his father, which he passed on to his children by his example.
There is a song from the 1960s that applies (not uniquely) to Bob (C.H.) McCaghren: "I'm just a soul whose intentions are good; Oh Lord, please don't let me be misunderstood." He will always be missed by those who knew him, and missed terribly by his family.

Clifford Hugh (Bob) McCaghren, born December 3, 1929, passed away Sunday, November 11, 2011 at his home in Mesquite with his family at his side. Bob is survived by his 5 children: Donna McCaghren-Tant, Robert McCaghren, Richard McCaghren, James McCaghren, and Sue Kelly; 5 grandchildren: Marc Johnson, Jess Northcutt, Jill Miller, Julie Johnson, and Carma Johnson; and great-grandchild Meredith Johnson. Bob will be remembered for his sense of humor and as a generous man who was always willing to help a stranger in need. He will be missed very much.
