Betty Lou Templer Roberts

Betty Lou Templer Roberts passed away on Sunday, May 5, 2024 at the age of 86. Betty was born to Cloma and N.I. Templer on May 27, 1937, in Merkel, Texas. She grew up on a farm in Rotan, Texas and graduated from Abilene Christian College (ACC) in 1959. Betty met her future husband Gerow Roberts while in the band at ACC. They married on January 23, 1959.  

Betty moved to Garland in 1966 with her husband, Gerow and their four children. She taught English at South Garland High School for about 20 years and was the head of the English department. After she retired from public school teaching, she taught in the Dallas County Community College District for another 20 years. 

She was a faithful, active member of Austin Street Church of Christ from 1966 until it closed its doors in 2004. She is founding member of North Pointe Church of Christ in Sachse where she served as a ladies Bible class teacher and anywhere she was needed.  The ladies class formed a quilting group and have made 100s of quilts to donate to children’s homes and the Navajo Indian Reservation for the last 20 years. Betty had a quilt project going at all times.

Betty did not let retirement slow her down. In addition to church, she actively volunteered for Keep Garland Beautiful and helped organize and run the Orchard Hills Neighborhood Association. She was always volunteering in a various activity.

Betty and Gerow own a 160 acre farm in Bowie, Texas where they loved to spend their free time. Since the passing of her husband, Betty continued to go there and feel closer to him and enjoy the outdoors.

Betty Roberts was predeceased in death by her husband of 59 years, Gerow Roberts and her grandson, Zachary Roberts.  

She is survived by her four children Geri R. Wyatt, Gary Roberts, Bryan Roberts, and Brenna Berry; her son-in-law Keith Wyatt, grandchildren, Jamison Wyatt, Sheridan Wyatt, Mackenzie Wyatt, Kaelyn Wyatt and Cameron Wyatt, and great grandson, Cayden Gerow Wyatt; her son-in-law Michael Berry, grandchildren Kristan Neeb, Jonathan Berry and Alison Berry, and great granddaughter Eleanor Ruth Berry; and her brother Jerry Templer, sister-in-law Claudia Templer, nephew, James Templer and niece, Laura Cossey.  She leaves behind countless friends from the church and the community.
