Belva Jean Walvoord

February 4, 1930 — August 7, 2021

Belva Jean Haynes Walvoord was born on February 4th, 1930, at the rural family home on Naaman School Road in Garland, Texas. She was born to Sashual Rusk Haynes and Fannie Shuffler Haynes. She passed from this life into the next on August 7, 2021, at 7 pm in a Plano hospital at the age of 91 years, 6 months and 3 days.

Jean was a lifelong resident of Garland and a member of the Dashing Debs drill team at Garland High School, where she graduated in 1947. She attended Texas Woman's University. While there she was a nominee for the "Posture Queen".

Jean married Clyde Walvoord on November 26th, 1949, at the Mt Auburn Church of Christ in Dallas. After starting a family, Jean worked at Kraft Foods in Garland as an executive secretary. She worked at Kraft for 30 years and retired in 1992.

Jean traveled to England, France, Belgium, Netherlands, Switzerland, Germany, Mexico, British Columbia, California, Hawaii, New York, Utah, Washington, Yellowstone, the Grand Canyon, Disney World, and Washington D.C.

She spent over twelve years with her sister, Helen, as a caregiver for their mother, Fannie Haynes. Fannie lived to be 100 years old.

Jean faithfully attended Eastern Hills Church of Christ in Garland and was a "charter member". Her biggest joys in life were spending time with her family or church family. Jean enjoyed watching soccer tournaments with her grandsons and doing flower arrangements and traveling.. She was a fan of the Cowboys, Mavericks, Rangers, Stars and the Texas Longhorns. Jean made many sacrifices so that her three sons could earn a college education.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 45 years, Clyde Shahan Walvoord; one sister, Oneida Haynes McCord; 4 brothers-in-law, Robert McCord, Frazier McCarty, Chris and Dexter Walvoord, one sister-in-law, Jody Walvoord and 3 nephews; Mike McCarty, Robin Walvoord and Steve McCord.

Jean is survived by: three sons Keith and wife Cynthia of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma, Kyle and wife Tracy of Garland and Kreg and wife Chantal of Rockwall; five grandsons Travis and wife Juanita of Garland, Paul and wife Megan of Joplin, Missouri, Austin and wife Alyssa of McKinney, Luke and wife Meredith of Edmond, Oklahoma, and Parker and wife Ashlyn of McKinney; two granddaughters Annabelle and Emily of Rockwall; six great-grandchildren William, Beckham, Emma, Alexandra, Brooks and Jack; one sister, Helen Haynes McCarty of Garland; and four nieces and nephews Shari Crenshaw and Sheila States, both of Virginia, Kevin McCarty of Garland, and Joel Walvoord of Lindale.

The family will receive friends from 6 pm – 8 pm on Thursday, August 12, 2021, at Eastgate Funeral Home. A celebration of her life will begin at noon on Friday, August 13, 2021 at Eastgate Funeral Home. Interment will follow at 2PM in the Restland Memorial Park.

Jean valued having a close relationship with her family and being with them made her the happiest. She also loved and valued deeply her church family.

Jean will be missed by all who knew her.
