Barbara H. Dunn

October 17, 1936 — August 27, 2023

Garland

Barbara Hearn Dunn was born Barbara Faye Hearn on October 17, 1936 in New Gulf, Texas. She was the fourth daughter and seventh child of Charles and Barbara Hearn. Growing up in such a large family in southeast Texas, she held many treasured memories of the times they spent together, working hard, playing hard and loving well. Her faith took hold as she faithfully attended church in her youth, and that commitment to faith became a bond that she would never break. Her high school years were active and filled with sports. Track and field, basketball, volleyball and especially tennis.

Upon graduation she accepted an invitation to do mission work in Idaho Falls, Idaho, during which she met her future husband, David E. Dunn, at a church function. The courtship was brief and they were married on June 18, 1955. David, who worked for Goodyear, was transferred to Ohio where their first child Allen, was born in 1956. Only briefly in Ohio, David was then transferred to Michigan where he and Barbara would spend the next 24 years. Four more children arrived in the next six years: Beth, Rebecca, Deborah, and Wade. Barbara devoted herself to the ministry taking place at Livonia Church of Christ where she was well known for her Ireless work among the women and children. Everyone knew of her hospitality and her devotion to being a wife and mother. Nothing was more important to her than sharing Christ with others.

The pot luck dinners at Livonia were legendary and the pies Barbara made were always in high demand. In the late 1970’s she started her own interior design business called Decorations by Barbara. In 1981, the children all graduated, she and David moved again, this Ime to Logan, Ohio where she took an integral role in bringing life, energy, commitment, positivity and devotion to the small Church of Christ congregation there.

While living in Logan, she became an excellent golfer, winning many club championships and outside tournaments and endearing herself to all. Her Ime in Logan lasted from 1981 until 2012 when she and David, realizing that they would need help as they got older, moved to Texas to get away from winter and be closer to family.

They arrived in Texas and again, the theme remained the same. There she devoted herself to the work of the church, to the care of her family and especially to doting on and enjoying her ever increasing circle of grand and great children. She was preceded in death in December of 2021, by David, her husband of 66 years. Barbara has two sisters and a brother still living, and she loved them very much, just as she dearly loved all of her 5 children, 16 grandchildren, and 37 great-grandchildren.
