Allen Lee Sumners

June 1, 1946 — May 25, 2022

Allen was born June 1, 1946 in Henderson Texas. His family moved to Dallas and later to Garland. On June 6, 1966 he began his military career, serving first in Germany. Returning from Germany in 1969, he entered the Texas Air National Guard and later returned to active duty in the US Air Force for a total of 33 years. His assignments included many stateside bases and three overseas bases. He said that the high light of his career was being stationed at Templehof Central Airport, Berlin during the fall of the Wall.

Upon retirement he and his family returned to East Texas. After raising his family, they moved to Glen Rose Texas where they had a small acreage. He enjoyed traveling the US, restoring and showing cars, golfing with old geezers, and volunteering in the community. Allen was a Mason, member of the Dallas Scottish Rite, and a Hella Temple Shriner. He was a life member of the Air Force Assoc, VFW, DAV and past Commander of American Legion Post 462.

He is survived by his life long friend, partner, and wife Jimmie of Murphy Texas; son Allen Sumners Jr and wife Amy of Murphy; daughter Jennifer Henson of Glen Rose; granddaughters Kara Henson of Glen Rose; Evelyn and Lydia Sumners of Murphy; and great grandsons Braxton and Andrew. He was preceded in death by his brother Shuby Wilson Sumners Jr, and parents Shuby Wilson Sumners Sr. and Fairy Fay Gamble.

Graveside services will be held at the Dallas Ft. Worth National Cemetery on June 8, 2022 at 11:30 with full military honors. The family request that in lieu of flowers, memorials in his name be made to the Dallas Scottish Rite Children's Hospital.
